How To Make Coffee

by Philip on March 23, 2011

Anybody can just throw some coffee into a cheap coffee maker, hit start, and brew up something, but making a really good pot of coffee takes experience, a little bit of skill, and most importantly, good coffee beans. Great coffee beans will make great coffee in a cheap brewer. Bad coffee beans will taste acidic no matter how nice the equipment you’re using. Keep this in mind as you experiment with different strengths and methods of making coffee making.

What Is the Perfect Cup of Coffee

how to make coffeeI consider the perfect cup of coffee to be one that does not need any cream or sugar to make it flavorful. I like a little cream, but I no longer drink anything that requires sugar to mask any acidity or bitterness. If you are under the impression that all coffee is bitter and needs sweetening, then you have probably been drinking poor quality coffee your whole life. This isn’t a bad thing – honestly, before Starbucks became so famous most of us drank pre-ground Folgers or whatever was cheapest, and for a couple reasons this is the poorest of the poor quality coffees. Get something a little nicer, which will probably be a bit more expensive, but will show you how delicious a good cup of coffee can be.

How to Make Coffee: The Steps

For a basic brewer, you just put the water and coffee in and hit start. If you haven’t drank coffee much in the past, or you haven’t brewed it on your own, you may want to try measuring out the amount of coffee you put in the machine to start. This will help you figure out how many coffee grinds you need to put into the machine to get the perfect flavor. Measure it for the first week, putting a little more or less to taste, and you’ll start to get a feel for being able to eyeball how much coffee you need to put in. You’ll also get an idea of how much you like to drink a day. Go slow if you’re not used to caffeine rushes, because you can easily give yourself the jitters.

How to Make Coffee Without a Coffee Maker

If you don’t have a coffee maker, you can still brew coffee. You simply are going to boil the coffee in a pot and then strain the grinds out afterwards. This is how coffee was regularly made before the home coffee maker, which has only been around for a few decades. The quality is going to be similar to a regular coffee maker.

There is much more to say about how to make good coffee – this article will be added to as time goes on. But for now, remember that the quality of the bean itself is much more important than any amount of machinery you can find. Good luck with your brewing success!
